It remains unclear which parts of the border Trump is specifically referring to.
After attempting to rename the Gulf of Mexico, Trump now seems to be setting his sights on parts—or perhaps all—of Canada.
On Friday, the New York Times revealed the details of a phone call between Donald Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, which took place in early February:
🔹 Trump stated that he does not consider the treaty defining the border between the two countries to be valid and that he wants to renegotiate it.
🔹 However, he did not provide further details on which areas might be affected.
🔹 The border treaty in question was signed in 1908, establishing the international boundary between Canada—then a British Dominion—and the United States.
Additionally, Trump mentioned a review of shared water resources, including lakes and rivers regulated by various treaties. He has previously shown interest in this issue.

Canadian politicians are taking Trump's remarks very seriously, especially since he has publicly stated his intent to economically pressure Canada.
At a January 7 press conference, before taking office, a New York Times reporter asked Trump whether he planned to annex Canada by military force. His response: "I will use economic force."
While it remains uncertain what specific actions Trump intends to take, the issue could significantly impact existing bilateral agreements, particularly those related to water withdrawals from the Great Lakes.
The report also highlights that ongoing disputes over NORAD and resource sharing have fueled tensions in the past. Canadian officials now fear that Trump is serious about his intentions.
